| Kayaking
|
| There
are a number of beach service vendors that rent closed-cell, sit-on-top kayaks.
Prices average $15-20 per hour for one- or two-person boats. There is no age limit,
but paddlers must be strong enough to control the kayaks. |
|
| Parasailing
|
| There
are also an number of Parasailing operations. Average cost for this activity is
$50 per person. Patrons are taken into the Gulf of Mexico and are raised up into
the skies for an unforgettable view of the Emerald Coast. Most operations can
facilitate up to three people in the air at one time, so you can enjoy the experience
with friends and family members. |

Personal
Water Craft |
|
Personal Watercraft, also
known as Wave Runners and Jet-Skis, are available for rental at various locations
on the beach and in Destin Harbor. The State of Florida requires that all operators
of personal watercraft be at least 14 years of age, and you must be 18 to rent
a PWC. Many rental establishments have their own rules and training procedures.

Sail Boats |
|
A number of beach vendors
offer catamaran sailboats for rental. These boats require skill to operate; usually
the vendor provides an operator to take the guests out for a sailing experience
in the Gulf of Mexico. Catamarans are quick and agile sailboats that float on
two hulls. The occupants ride on a mesh decking that is stretched between the
hulls. The boats often heel, or lean over, in strong wing making for an exciting
ride. Some vendors give experienced boaters the option of going on a check-ride
to show their boat-handling skills before being allowed to take the boats out
on their own. |

Motor
Boats |
|
A popular pastime in the
Destin area is spending a day exploring the area's inland waters on Pontoon Boats,
or other smaller craft. Pontoons and other boats are available for rental in the
Destin Harbor. Boaters often congregate at Crab Island, a submerged island near
the Destin Bridge where the water averages three to four feet deep, on hot summer
days to stay cool and enjoy themselves. On occasion there is even live music from
the back of a boat. A number of floating vendors serve food and drinks on the
water to the people gathered there. The State of Florida requires that boater’s
under the age of 21 complete a boating safety test before operating a boat with
10 horsepower or greater. Individual rental establishments carry their own rules
and regulations for boat rental and operation. |
